JOCKEY Hayley Turner gave a polished performance on Noble Citizen, winner of the seven-furlong nursery.

It was a red-letter day for jockey Hayley Turner as she registered a well-received first winner on the Rowley Mile.

British racing’s leading female rider was aboard Noble Citizen, who came home two-and-a-half lengths ahead of Dalkey Girl in the Express Cafes Ltd nursery.

Turner was off the mark on the track at the 39th attempt after Noble Citizen grabbed the lead at the furlong-pole before powering away to score at odds of 9-2.

Turner said: “That is another one to cross off my list! I think there is only two tracks left now - Chester and Ripon - where I haven’t had a winner. I‘m thrilled to have ridden a winner on the Rowley Mile.”

It was also the first ride Turner has had for trainer David Simcock, who was quick to praise her.

He said: “I’m delighted to have helped Hayley have her first winner here. She rode it perfectly and is more than capable.”

Last year saw Light Shift emerge victorious from the one-mile Traditional Pie And Pasty EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes and she went on to Oaks glory in 2007.

The latest renewal went the way of Makaaseb and the bookies weren’t slow to introduce her into the betting for the Epsom Classic next year.

The Pulpit filly won by three-quarters-of-length from Queen Of Naples and was a given a 25-1 quote for the Oaks.

Winning trainer Michael Jarvis said: “She has always worked nicely and skipped off that fast ground. We think she is nice and is such a fluent mover. She has had a nice introduction and Martin Dwyer didn’t have to get too serious with her.”

Lambourn trainer Ralph Beckett recorded an approximate 70-1 double with Red Rumour and Fr Dominic on target.

Red Rumour struck at odds of 11-2 in the opening Lakenham Ice Cream Median Auction maiden, while Fr Dominic was a 10-1 winner of the Express Coffee Cars EBF maiden.

Henry Cecil’s fine season continued with Tomintoul Flyer justifying 6-4 favouritism in the mile-long Warrens Of Warwick Median Auction maiden.

Seb Sanders completed a treble on the day to boost his bid to become champion jockey when Stubbs Art won the concluding MC Seafood And Oriental Foods nursery.

The Rowley Mile stages Lester Piggott Day tomorrow (September 22) with a seven-race card commencing at 2.10pm.
