CLIVE Brittain was thrilled after Albabilia built on her Ascot maiden success by triumphing in the skybet.com Sweet Solera Stakes today.
The daugher of King’s Best showed an abundance of talent as she landed the prestigious seven-furlong Group 3 from Don’t Forget Faith.
Albabilia tracked the early leader Kay Es Jay before surging to the front over a furlong out. Don’t Forget Faith laid down a defiant challenge inside the final 150 metres but the Brittain-trained filly held on by half-a-length for a 7-2 triumph.
Newmarket-based Brittain said: “I am delighted with that. She is the most exciting filly that I have handled since Sayyedati (the 1993 1000 Guineas winner).” The Saif Ali-owned filly is now available at 40-1 to repeat Sayyedati’s Classic heroics.
Giganticus demonstrated his love of the July Course when tagging the seven-furlong handicap to last month’s Bunbury Cup victory. The Barry Hills-trained four-year-old prevailed by a length-and-a-quarter from Ceremonial Jade.
On the previous evening Sir Michael Stoute unleashed a promising two-year-old in the shape of Tanweer, who took the Wilson Browne maiden.
Stoute won the race with King’s Best in 1999 and he went on to bag the following year’s 2000 Guineas. Tanweer has a long, long way to go before he can even be considered for a Classic but he certainly has more than his fair share of his ability as this debut in the seven-furlong event showed. The 4-1 shot surged past rivals before collaring The Which Doctor in the dying strides to please connections.
Angus Gold, racing manager to the winning owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, said: “That was very nice and he is obviously a horse with potential. He got blocked and it was nice to see him pick up when Richard switched him. He has a lovely temperament and that was a lovely start.”
Many Volumes indicated that he is going the right way with victory in the 10f Firestone Building Projects conditions race. The son of Chester House powered past the favourite Snoqualmie in the final furlong and came home with two-and-a-half lengths to spare.
Trainer Henry Cecil said of the 15-8 winner: “He has won nicely and seems to be growing up. He will make a nice four-year-old and is coming on the whole time.”
Red Alert Day emerged victorious from the Unicorn Asset Management July Course Series nursery to prompt a flying dismount from the successful jockey Frankie Dettori. The evening’s other winners were Central Force (Mykal Industries handicap), Tamagin (Mineral Star handicap) and Tuanku (Headland International Selling race). The ‘Newmarket Nights’ summer season concludes on Friday August 17 with Wet Wet Wet bringing the curtain down on another stunning series of concerts.
