BEE Eater’s rise up the sprinting ranks continued with a dazzling performance in the GL Events handicap on August 3’s evening card.
Trained by Sir Mark Prescott, the well-related filly - she is from the same family as Marwell and Marling - made it three on the bounce as she zipped home under jockey Seb Sanders.
Her characteristic of fiercely flashing her tail at the close of races was in evidence once more as she sped past Come Out Fighting en route to a one-and-half length victory.
Local trainer Prescott said: “She has loads of ability and loads of character which has been well-documented. The tail goes around but that is the way she is.
“We will try and get some ‘black type’ for her next time in a six-and-a-half furlong Listed race in Germany on August 19.”
On a night where fillies and mares were to the fore, Red Sail (winners bingo.co.uk Fillies’ handicap), Ivory Lace (GPT Halverton handicap) and Smart Ass (NGK Spark Plugs handicap) were also successful.
The two Unicorn Asset Management-sponsored maidens were landed by Siberian Tiger (seven furlongs) and impressively by Captain Brilliance (six furlongs).
Saturday’s feature, the £20,000 Unicorn Asset Management July Course Series nursery (qualifier) went the way of 5-1 shot Johar Jamal who showed an impressive finishing kick to come out on top by a length-and-a-quarter from Rubirosa.
It was another track victory for trainer Mick Channon and owner Jaber Abdullah, who was represented by Rabbah Bloodstock’s racing director Bruce Raymond.
He said: “Mick gave her a break and said she had improved since her last run. Here she settled and then quickened up well - it was a good performance.”
Upper Lambourn-based trainer Stan Moore was out of luck at Glorious Goodwood in the Thoroughbred Stakes, going down a short head to Dubai’s Touch.
But within minutes there was compensation on the July Course as Final Verse did the business in the mile hss.com conditions race. Jockey Liam Keniry gave a polished display as he powered away from Metropolitan Man for a two-length triumph.
Moore said: “He is a really nice horse with a ton of ability but he is a bit tricky. We will maybe go for a Group 3 abroad now but he was bought out of Sir Michael Stoute’s yard with his main aim being next year’s Dubai International Racing Carnival.”
Dr Jon Scargill made it two victories in two days at Newmarket as Big Noise followed stable-mate Red Sail into the winner’s enclosure. He followed up a short head win over six furlongs on the track with a more comfortable triumph over a further 200 metres.
The improving sprinter travelled supremely well for jockey Richard Hughes before asserting over a furlong out and running on to score by two-and-a-half lengths.
Trainer John Gosden unleashed another smart two-year-old in the shape of Sense Of Joy, who bolted up by five lengths on her debut in the Steve Lambert 40th Birthday EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes. The day’s other winners were Pathos (HSS Hire handicap) and Invasian (Maxjet handicap).
Racing makes a swift return to the course as next Friday, August 10 Ronan Keating plays ‘live’ after the track action concludes.
