Wallace to step up Eat Pie

Saturday 7th July, 2007

MARK WALLACE has confirmed that debut winner Eat Pie is set to take up her engagement in the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket on July 11.

The Thunder Gulch filly impressed first time out when she scooted up by a length-and-a-quarter in a six-furlong fillies’ maiden at Kempton on Tuesday.

She has come out of her race fine and is now set to step up in class for a shot at the Group 2 on the July Course on the opening day of the Ritz Club July Festival.

Newmarket-based trainer Wallace said: “I think we are going to take our chance in the Cherry Hinton. It will be a speculative sort of run but you never know.

“I was very pleased with her debut and the form looks alright. Most of them progress from their first run although she wasn’t too green for her debut.

“We’re now pitching in her at the deep end and if she can run into a place we would be over the moon.”

The ground is currently on the soft side of good but Wallace hinted that his charge will handle it, pointing to her pedigree. He said: “Both her half-sister and half-brother went in soft ground.”
