BOTH this year’s Derby and Oaks-winning trainers Peter Chapple-Hyam and Henry Cecil will be on the July Course this Friday night - as will be the brilliant Sugababes!

The latest ‘Newmarket Night’ is set to combine an intriguing seven-race card followed by a concert by top pop act, the Sugababes.

The turf action gets underway at 6.00pm with Chapple-Hyam, successful in the Derby with Authorized, and Cecil, who sent out Light Shift for Oaks glory, saddling runners in the opening Unicorn Asset Management July Course Series fillies’ maiden.

Indeed, this was the race that saw Light Shift make her debut a year ago when she came second. Cecil will be represented this time around by Crystany, a filly by Green Desert.

Chapple-Hyam has the regally-bred Laureldean Dream in the same six-furlong race. She is a half-sister to the top-class miler Ad Valorem and cost 00,000 at the yearling sales.

Newmarket-based Chapple-Hyam is poised for a busy night as he runs Our Ruby in the following LTM Group Handicap - a mile event that should suit Resplendent Nova, while the Brian Meehan-trained Gunner’s View is open to improvement.

The progressive Pathos should give a good account of himself in the newmarketracecourses.co.uk handicap - as should Gloved Hand in the evening’s feature race, the European Breeders’ Fund Fillies’ conditions event.

Gloved Hand was a course and distance winner only last Saturday and comes into her latest engagement in good heart. The £12,000-guaranteed race also sees Chapple-Hyam send out the interesting if enigmatic Dizzy Dreamer.

Elsworth is double-handed in the mile-and-a-quarter handicap with Zaif and former Cambridgeshire winner Spanish Don in the 11-strong field. The other two races on the card are TurfTV handicap - a fascinating sprint contest over the minimum trip - and the Newmarket Nights Claiming Stakes.

After the racing is over, the stage will be cleared for the superb Sugababes, who have had more top-10 hits than any girl group since The Supremes. Four No.1s and album sales of 5 million are just a couple more facts that underline how successful the band is. And you can see them tomorrow night at the July Course, Newmarket. Tickets will be available on the gate.
