Quinn 1.1

Richard Quinn saddles Luck Money for his first ride out of retirement.

RICHARD QUINN picked up his first victory since coming out of retirement with Luck Money prevailing in the European Breeders’ Fund maiden at Newmarket this afternoon.

Quinn, 45, returned to competitive action two days ago and today made his mark on a Paul Cole-trained juvenile that looks set for Royal Ascot.

The Indian Ridge colt made every yard on his way to a two-and-a-half length triumph from Orientalist Art, landing odds of 5-1.

Quinn said: “ I’m a little bit rusty and can improve on that but it was very nice. The horse has done it pretty professionally. With normal progression he could be a Coventry type.”

The other jockey making headlines was Jimmy Fortune who rode a near 50-1 treble, triggered by Lucarno’s triumph in the onerailway.com Fairway Stakes.

The progressive Dynaformer colt had three-and-a-half lengths to spare from Supersonic Dave in the Listed race and may find himself at Epsom for the Derby next Saturday. He is now 20-1 for the Blue Riband but connections have yet to commit him to the race.

Trainer John Gosden said: “He is still in the Derby for the very simple reason that if he won well today we wanted to be able to think about it. There will be no decisions until midweek.”

Fortune was back in the winner’s enclosure around half-an-hour later after Tariq had returned to form with a 7-2 victory in the Darian Homes King Charles II Stakes.

The Kyllachy colt beat the favourite Mr Napper Tandy for his first win since landing the juvenile maiden on the same card a year ago.

Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam said: “He has had a couple of hard missions but has never shirked anything so I’m very pleased to see him winning again.

“The Jersey looks ideal for him next. But later in the year - when he strengthens up - we will consider going back to six furlongs with him.”

Fortune’s hat-trick arrived with 2-1 favourite Right To Play on target from Indonesia in the Home Of Horse Racing Handicap Stakes.

The Coral Sprint Cup went the way of Genki who nailed Lipocco on the line, Artimino scored in the newmarketexperience.co.uk. and Jaleela justified 8-11 favouritism in the Rowley Mile Maiden.
