NEWMARKET Racecourses have been shortlisted for an RSVP award in the ‘Most creative use of a sporting venue’ category for its themed Christmas Parties and the annual Art, Craft and Design show that were held at the NatWest Rowley Mile in November and December in 2006.

Two other venues have been shortlisted for the award which was open to any type of sporting venue in which an in-house events team or an external agency has used the venue's facilities and space to stage two separate creative events.

The judges were looking for innovation, logistical planning, venue support and client endorsement. The results will be announced on Friday 29^th June at an awards ceremony to be held at Fulham Palace, London.

RSVP is the magazine for the creative events industry. Since 2002, it has organised the RSVP exhibition which has established itself as the annual forum for the UK's key event buyers and suppliers and 2007 marks the inaugural year of their awards.

Managing Director of Newmarket Racecourses, Lisa Hancock, said: “We are very pleased to have been shortlisted for the RSVP awards as they recognise the hard work of all involved.

“Both the Art, Craft and Design Show and the themed Christmas Parties are very popular non-racing events that we stage at the racecourse and we will continue to work hard to further the concepts and, with respect to the Christmas Parties, make them the most exciting event of their kind in East Anglia.”

Newmarket Racecourses holds the largest themed Christmas Parties in East Anglia. Every year the Millennium Grandstand at the NatWest Rowley Mile is transformed into a particular theme.

In 2006, the chosen theme was ‘A Winter Wonderland’ with the main entrance of the grandstand dramatically lit to glow like an ice palace and the main staircase glistening with stalactites. 

Stars, snowflakes and Christmas trees were also suspended from above and the main celebration hall was even more spectacular.

For the 2007 Christmas Parties, the NatWest Rowley Mile will be turned into a mythical Sultan’s palace as guests will be whisked away to an Arabian Nights-themed party like no other.

The Art, Craft and Design Show is an annual event now in its 35^th year with the last two held on the NatWest Rowley Mile. This prestigious event with over 170 stands attracts over 6,000 visitors across three days. The show takes 12 months of logistical planning and has proved to be extremely successful with money also being raised for charity at the event.
