Ebor hero Mudawin in HQ outing
Wednesday 16th May, 2007
LAST YEAR’S Ebor hero Mudawin is set to take his place in Saturday’s feature race at Newmarket.
The six-year-old will tackle the mile-and-six furlong handicap, a £40,000 race sponsored by betdirect.
Trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam today confirmed to www.newmarketracecourses.co.uk that her stable star would be returning to the NatWest Rowley Mile just two weeks after his last appearance at the track.
On that occasion, he finished sixth of 11 but was running over a mile-and-a-half, which is short of his optimum distance.
This weekend he reverts to his favoured trip and also renews acquaintances with jockey John Egan, who rode to him to Ebor glory but was unavailable last time out.
Newmarket-based Chapple-Hyam said: “He is in good order and stepping back up to his true trip of a mile-and-a-six. But we would not want any more rain.
“It is good to have John Egan back in the saddle. He really knows the horse and gets on well with him.”
“We want to be in the shake-up on Saturday,” added Chapple-Hyam before outlining future plans for Mudawin.
“I’m going to put him in the Northumberland Plate - I think Newcastle will suit him - and then we will head back to York for the Ebor again.”
