Classic heroes entered in Jockey Club Stakes

SIR PERCY and Sixties Icon may face each other in what would be a mouth-watering clash in the StanJames.UK.com Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket on May 6.

The 2006 classic heroes are just part of a 22-strong entry for the £90,000 Group 2, staged over 12 furlongs at the Rowley Mile course. Sir Percy, who landed last year’s Derby, made his seasonal reappearance in Dubai last month, finishing fourth in the Sheema Classic, while St Leger winner Sixties Icon has not been seen out since the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Sir Michael Stoute has entered last season’s King Edward VII scorer Papal Bull and Mountain High. The Newmarket-based trainer has an extraordinary record in the Jockey Club Stakes and will be chasing a seventh victory in it.

Other intriguing entries include Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Red Rocks and Linda’s Lad - the latter is trained by Andre Fabre who sent over Shirocco to claim the 2006 renewal of the race. The one Irish entry is the Aidan O’Brien-trained Septimus, successful in the Group 2 Dante Stakes at York last year.

The 22-strong entry in full is: Sir Percy, Sixties Icon, Dragon Dancer, The Last Drop, Under The Rainbow, Mashaahed, Red Rocks, Papal Bull, Mountain High, Linda’s Lad, Munsef, Balkan Lad, Septimus, Rising Cross, Day Flight, Mighty, Orcadian, Admiral’s Cruise, Star Of Light, Crosspeace, Luberon, Hotel Du Cap.
