Yaqeen commited to 1000 Guineas

TRAINER Michael Jarvis has outlined that Yaqeen is an intended runner in the Stan James 1000 Guineas on May 6.

The Green Desert filly is set for a major step up in class after breaking her maiden in impressive fashion at Newmarket last Thursday in what was her second career start. She triumphed by two lengths in a seven-furlong race and is now as short as 11-2 with the sponsors for the fillies’ classic back at the Rowley Mile.

Speaking to www.newmarketracecourses.co.uk, Jarvis said: “Yaqeen is an intended runner in the 1000 Guineas. She has come out of last week’s race well and seems fine.

“It was only a maiden but I thought she has done it well - and she was doing it at the right end of the race. Given an extra furlong, she would have been an even more clear-cut winner. A mile will be to her liking.”

Newmarket-based Jarvis knows what it takes to win a 1000 Guineas, having trained Ameerat to land the 2001 renewal.

He said: “The two fillies are quite different. Ameerat was a big filly, almost like a colt. This filly is light. I’m certainly not saying she is one of the favourites but she is a filly with potential and warrants taking her place in the line-up.”
