ADAGIO put himself firmly into the Stan James 2000 Guineas picture with an impressive victory in the banshahousestables.com Craven Stakes. The Grand Lodge colt, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, was cut to 5-1 from 14-1 for May 5’s classic on the Nat West Rowley after completing a one-and-a-half length triumph in the Group 3.
Jockey Kerrin McEvoy brought the 5-4 favourite up the stands’ side rail to collar Sonny Red inside the final furlong and underline his Guineas credentials. McEvoy said: "We didn’t have a smooth run and I was a little bit unsure as to where to angle him to get a run. "He got a little bit of a bump - accidental, of course - from Jamie Spencer’s horse (Sonny Red) at the bottom of The Dip. "That unsettled him a bit but he has quickened up well and when he got to the front, he knew that the job was done."
