DERBY hope Authorized shaped up well in the hands of Frankie Dettori in a racecourse spin ahead of Wednesday’s racing. The Racing Post Trophy winner was watched by his co-owner Saleh Al Homaizi and trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam as he went through his work-out. Exercising with an older lead horse, the son of Montjeu stretched out in impressive style over seven-and-half furlongs.

Chapple-Hyam instantly pointed the way to the Group 2 Dante Stakes at York next month ahead of a tilt at the Derby on June 2. He said: "I’m very happy with Authorized - he did everything that was asked of him. "I just brought him here to wake him up and he has gone well. He is a typical Montjeu horse, so laid-back. "This will really bring him on and he will head to the Dante and then the Derby. That has always been the plan."

Dettori was in demand as 20 minutes later he partnered last year’s St Leger hero Sixties Icon in a seven-furlong work-out with a lead. The son of Galileo strode clear at the end of the gallop to leave trainer Jeremy Noseda delighted. He said: "We just wanted to give him a day out and that was ideal. Frankie said he felt fabulous and we will think about coming back for the Jockey Club Stakes on May 6."

Noseda also saddled Stan James 1,000 Guineas entry Simply Perfect, who went well over six-and-a-half furlongs with Mick Kinane in the plate. The trainer added: "I’m happy with the filly - she is in great order. We will have a chat with her owners and decide whether she goes for the English or French 1,000 Guineas but she is in great shape."
