Thursday 12th April, 2007

NEWMARKET Racecourses have today announced the final act to complete the line up for the 2007 Newmarket Nights with Q103. The Pet Shop Boys will be performing at the July Course on Friday 27th July.
Pet Shop Boys consisting of Neil Tennant (vocals) and Chris Lowe (keyboards) are one of the most consistently successful duos in pop music history. Since forming in 1981, they have had 39 top thirty singles in the UK, including four number ones “West End Girls”, “It’s a sin”, “Always on my mind” and “Heart”.
Their recent album Fundamental was released in 2006 and acclaimed as one of their best, reaching number five in the UK album charts. It was also nominated for two Grammy awards (Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording).
Their stage show is a multi-media event, created by Olivier Award-winning theatre designer, Es Devlin, and is described as "an evening of electronic entertainment".
Managing Director of Newmarket Racecourses, Lisa Hancock said “We are delighted to announce the Pet Shop Boys as the final act to complete the 2007 line up. I am sure that they will be a huge success with the Newmarket Nights audience.”
The duo are currently headlining the V Festival in Australia as part of a 15 month world tour. The last year has also seen them in the studio with old friend Robbie Williams. "She's Madonna", his new single, was produced and co-written by Pet Shop Boys and they also play on the track, with Neil contributing backing vocals. Pet Shop Boys have also just remixed the new single by The Killers, "Read My Mind".
Six weeks ago Neil Tennant appeared onstage with Scissor Sisters at London's Koko at a benefit concert for the charity Body & Soul, during which he and Jake Shears performed a medley of the Pet Shop Boys' classic single "Love Comes Quickly" and "It Can't Come Quickly Enough" by the Scissor Sisters .
In addition, Neil is executive producer on the new Rufus Wainwright album, with Wainwright himself assuming the producer's role. The album, "Release the Stars", will be released on May 15th.
